Beirut Release eMusic EP "Pompeii"

"Just a few weeks after the release of the Lon Gisland EP, Beirut have dropped a couple more morsels to feed the starving masses: the Pompeii EP, currently available only at eMusic. (It will be available soon in Europe via Rough Trade Digital.)
It consists of the songs "Fountains and Tramways" and "Napoleon on the Bellerophon". Both tracks were recorded before Condon made Beirut's debut album Gulag Orkestar."

Feist: The Reminder + Tour Dates
Okay, first off, how the hell did Leslie Feist's voice get even more amazing? She's improving and that's scary... wait, no that's good. I suppose it's from the world-wide touring she did for Let It Die, and you know, even though I can't sing, if I sang all the time, I know I'd get better. So, even an amazing voice like Feist's can improve as well. All right, now I'm not scared any longer (unless I happen to hear myself singing). This song "My Moon, My Man" isn't going to set anything on fire in my world. It's slight and short and sure as hell can't be the best thing on the upcoming release The Reminder... but then that's why it's the first track 'officially' leaked, it's the one that will appeal to most listeners. Now let me backtrack and say that I now feel this song will be a grower and after a dozen more listens will begin to rub me the right way. Although when I wish for Feist to rub me the right way, I turn to her debut solo album, Monarch. I prefer the indieness of this early record, as opposed to the more mainstream, AOR vibe of Let It Die.From the upcoming release, The Reminder

Arcade Fire Neon Bible Lyrics
Neon Bible, Arcade Fire's second full length for Merge Records, will be in stores this Tuesday March 6th. It will undoubtedly outsell Funeral and bring more renown to this already popular indie band. This record shows all just how much band leader Win Butler is beginning to resemble, in his songwriting, Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen was and is a much more populist writer, although Butler does write about issues that concern all, he does it in a much more inward fashion. With just a slight adjustment in his writing outlook, Butler could take the band to major mainstream success... that's if he wishes to.

NOVI SPLIT
David J (Jerkovich pronounced Yer-ko-vitch) plays guitar for other bands (Kind of Like Spitting and Ill Lit among others) but he's got the talent and skill to write and record his own songs under the name Novi Split. About to see release on Hush Records is his latest record, Pink In The Sink. Jerkovich shares a musical warmth as Novi Split, his voice right up against your ear... the music percolating between electronic touches and organic wood and strings. The sound is similar to one band he has done guitar work for, that band being the aforementioned Ill Lit (see the *sixeyes review of Ill Lit's latest here). Opening Pink In The Sink with the lovely melody borne by "You Got Served", and following with the sweetly delivered "Voices Carrie", with it's sharp piano notes and rustling violin, David J makes it adamantly clear that these songs mean a helluva lot to him and that makes this a recording well worth your time, one bearing honest feelings delivered in the art of song. A standout track isn't easy to extricate from the best of this bunch, but "California Skies", with it's overwhelming sunstroke of sounds from guitars, electronic flourishes, and multi-tracked vocals, rises above the others.

Mountain Goats Tour Dates
The Mountain Goats are preparing to brave arctic air to spread joy and music. Tomorrow they will perform for the huddled masses of Fairbanks, Alaska (again, after playing tonight) and repeat the trick the following day and right on into early April. They'll move on down the west coast where they'll likely tip a few with good friend John Vanderslice. Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, Interpol to Rock UK Fests
"Residents of Ireland and Scotland alike can catch the sweet, sweet sounds of the Arcade Fire, Bloc Party, Interpol, and more this summer at two remarkably similar UK events: 2007's Oxegen and T in the Park festivals.
In addition to the aforementioned acts, artists booked for both fests include Klaxons, Scissor Sisters, CSS, Snow Patrol, Kings of Leon, My Chemical Romance, Razorlight, the Kooks, Babyshambles, etc."
"Performers exclusive to Oxegen, which takes place at Naas, Ireland's Punchestown Racecourse on July 7 and 8, include Daft Punk and Muse. The Veils - 'Playing with Time'
Finn Andrews (center) is the group's singer and songwriter and he has a distinctive voice - kind of a soft rasp - but, rasp isn't right - more of a rustling, especially on the slower tracks - like barefeet brushing through long grass. - from an earlier*Sixeyes post
Have you heard Nux Vomica? Or heard of Nux Vomica, *Sixeyes favourite album of 2006 (it was released last year in Europe) by The Veils? Well, you will, or at the very least you should as it will finally and fittingly see a release stateside on Great Society this coming April 24th. The band is led by the slimly bodied and generously talented New Zealander Finn Andrews. A young man whose voice and passion may not be s0 much timeless as they are pure of vision. Andrews looks past the material and focuses on the spirit of life and love which, as we all well know, are timeless.

Teitur: Tour Dates and MP3
Teitur Lassen is from the Faroe Islands which are caught somewhere between Scotland to the south, Iceland to the west and Norway to the east. Teitur (tie-tor) is how he is known to fans of music the world over due to his enormous talent at penning originals and re-making classics, or at least the classic "Great Balls Of Fire" by Jerry Lee Lewis.And it was his own version of this song (he's put the lyrics to his own music) that made me pay much more attention to his completely original music. Anyone who can renew, or invite, interest in a song I had heard hundreds of times before deserves to be praised and more closely listened to.
Currently touring his latest record Stay Under The Stars (Arlo and Betty Recordings), I encourage you to seek out tickets for his shows and discover him for yourself.

rademacher: New MP3 and Tour Dates
Fresno CA's Rademacher had long ago caught my ear with their music. What stands out is the vocals, so distinctive that they very nearly obscure the interesting noises they coax from instruments plugged into electrical outlets... and some not, uh, plugged in. This new song is from their upcoming full length, Stunts, which the band has now finished work on at The Ship, the studio owned by Earlimart's Aaron Espinoza in Eagle Rock, CA.You know I think every song I've heard by these guys has an undercurrent of unease of which I am sure is a result of the lead vocal. This song is no exception, but the music, as is typical of the band, is a special blend of little pieces, of rhythms, woven together.

Canadian Hayden Desser is so laid back, you might miss just how damn good he is. Like an athlete who's so smooth that he appears to be coasting on the field, Hayden can have the same effect with his throat of Northern smoke and low key song characters. Tobias Froberg - "God's Highway" [mp3]
I had to head over to Google and see if Simon and Garfunkel had done a song called "God's Highway". They hadn't, so I'm going to have to put Froberg down as a big fan of that acclaimed duo. And as you may know I've, easily and happily, become a fan of Swede Froberg, having posted songs of his in the past. This one is just another indication of his classic pop influences.

Ian Love - "The Only Night" [mp3]
Love, an American, has that oddly seductive phrasing that is most often found in Scandinavian pop singers... I can't get a handle on how to describe how Swedes, Danes, and Norwegians, curl their tongues around English lyrics, but it's different enough to stand out and familiar enough to appeal. It's kind of like a new flavour of coffee, one you haven't tried before and now that you have, you're smitten. To make a long story short, Ian Love has a touch of that flavour in his voice and I like it.

This band from LA has got something, at least that's my call. I hopped onto their myspace a week, or two, ago and was immediately taken with the sound of Hari Rex (guitar, keys, vox), Freddie Nix (bass, piano, vox), and D. Paul Dutt (drums, percussion). Arresting vocals, great dynamics, and tension... all great music has the building of tension and the joy of release. What Via Violenta add is the beauty of tension and release within the framework of the band itself. The songs often bearing a startling dichotomy, Hari Rex's laidback vocal as smooth as hookah smoke clashing with the strong vibrant music stirred up by the band, and it works wonderfully. And don't forget space, air, or holes; big spaces in the music where the listener can easily slip in between the instruments. "Always Looking Back" will sneak into your memory, you've just got to give it a chance to be heard... the lyrics are well worth a listen as well, lines like "... I'm just so happy to go through the windshield for you..." will soon be anticipated with each new listen.always looking back [mp3]

MY PROJECT BLUE
The young Canadian band, My Project: Blue, is quite often described with reference to David Bowie, but I don't hear it. What I do hear is a striking similarity to Dan Bejar (Destroyer). Bejar crossed with Lou Reed in this song especially. But then Bejar himself has been oft described as a Bowie acolyte, a disciple at the altar of the David, by those who hear Mr Jones in Mr Bejar's music... I don't. Not usually. When I listen to this My Project: Blue song, I most definitely hear the 'voice-made-for-indie' nasal essence of BC native, Dan Bejar. And, yes, some glam elements are present in My Project: Blue music, hell, you can almost see the glitter on the guitar, where it has fallen all the way from the '70s. All right... it's Dan Bejar vocals, '70's glam vibe, and '80's new wave instruments. And I'll admit Bowie has influenced all of these elements. It's just that I don't hear the direct connection... do you?+ control of me
