| MP3 PREVIEW: Art Brut: "We're taking our clothes off..." |
The best talk-singer to come out of the UK in ages, Eddie Argos of Art Brut, starts off the song "Pump Up The Volume" with the line...
"We're taking our clothes off..."
I want to say that's a great start, but you know... I... uhh... don't fancy... men. Although the songs do sound great (even if they're unmastered).
Here's a preview of the upcoming release by Art Brut, It's a Bit Complicated (June 26 on Downtown Records)... from the label.
Unmastered 5 track preview "Pump Up the Volume" "Direct Hit" "Post Soothing Out" "Late Sunday" "Nag Nag Nag Nag" [download link: zip file]

| The National's 'Boxer' Has Leaked |

Yes, that's right, Boxer has sprung a leak and it looks like no one's going to sop up the beautiful mess. The release date is over 7 weeks away, I think, and here it is playing as I type (thank you, D.S.) , the song "Ada" playing. It's a lovely melody driven by Matt Berninger's smoke empowered vocals, the wonderful addition of piano to many songs on this new album, and lines like these...
Stand inside an empty tuxedo with grapes in my mouth waiting for Ada
I'm not going to post a song from Boxer, yet. I could get all kinds of traffic by doing so, but I want to get a much better feel for the new music. The band has obviously made an attempt to grow and expand, musically and literally, by seeking out the musical talents of Doveman's Thomas Bartlett and indie it-boy Sufjan Stevens. And I should at least make an attempt to grow by burrowing into the rich soil of this new music.
And that is the band in the cover shot for Boxer. From Boxer - fake empire [ mp3] BUY The National's music. You can cancel before your trial period ends and you'll never pay a dime. Keep the FREE MP3s as a gift just for checking out eMusic. FIND MORE SONGS HERE. |

| Robert Gomez |
Robert Gomez might come from Denton, TX, but his throat is in the same region as Sufjan Stevens. A region where words carry on the wind while all the while threatening to tear before they reach your ears. Hearing Gomez (and Stevens) sing is how I imagine it feels to be a girl in the back seat of a big car. A car moving through the sultry* summer night (*a big thank you to Throw Momma From The Train) with the girl's parents in the front seat and her boyfriend beside her in the back, singing in his fluid whisper against her reddening ear while the radio crackles like a dying campfire. Having said that, Gomez does rock and can stir his whispery breeze into desert solar wind, the music rising around like electrical heat waves.
"Closer Still" may be the song picked as the one to promote the album, but I find "Into The Sun" to be a richer song, well, at least the one that inspired me to write this post.
His latest record on Bella Union is called Brand New Towns.

| Tapes 'N Tapes To Record Second Album this June |

This news item found at billboard.com:BY John Benson, ClevelandA whole bunch of untitled songs is what Tapes 'N Tapes singer/guitarist Josh Grier has at this stage of writing the band's next album, which is slated to be recorded in June for a tentative fall release date.
"None of the songs have been played live so far," Grier tells Billboard.com. "I've been holding off and wanted to get to the point where I was comfortable with them and liked how they were sounding."
That will change next month when the Minneapolis quartet hits the road for a headlining club tour, which begins April 16 in Columbia, Mo., and also includes a Coachella date. When asked if he's concerned about any of the new material finding its way onto the Internet, Grier laughs, "There's only so much you can control. I think that's part of the reason why we waited until this tour to play the new stuff, because I wanted to make sure we had the lyrics written so I wasn't just mumbling words."Go HERE to read more.

| ARCADE FIRE CANCEL EURO TOUR |
This is terrible news for those of you who were looking forward to Arcade Fire in your neck of the European woods, but due to illness, Win Butler has had to cancel the remaining dates slated for Europe. Butler has posted his apology and explanation on the band's website, this is the post in full.
Win Butler's post:
"heavy heart"
Hello Friends,
I am backstage at the venue in Oslo and I just had to make the very sad decision to cancel the rest of the European tour. I have been suffering from a sinus and bronchial infection for the last 3 months, and last night in Stockholm I finally pushed my voice and body farther than they are able to go. Last night I kept yelling at the monitor guy because I didn't recognize the sound that was coming out of the monitor as my own voice, and it took me until the second song to realize that the sound was coming from me. Today I can barely speak, or make any sound, so finishing the shows is no longer possible.
I have had several doctors advise me to cancel shows weeks ago, and I have been trying to push through, but for my own health and safety I need to have sinus surgery so I can get better and start the recovery process. We are all very sad, because we were very much looking forward to playing these shows, and we could not imagine canceling a show unless it was physically impossible to do. We apologize to the fans that have been waiting to see us, and we promise to try and come back as soon as it is humanly possible...
We would like to thank everyone who has been coming to the shows, and the outpouring of love and support for our music that we have felt. Wish me luck with the doctors,
And see you soon
luv,
Win

Sky Blue Sky Tracklist: 01 Either Way 02 You Are My Face 03 Impossible Germany 04 Sky Blue Sky 05 Side With the Seeds 06 Shake It Off 07 Please Be Patient With Me 08 Hate It Here 09 Leave Me (Like You Found Me) 10 Walken 11 What Light 12 On and On and On
"Either Way" Maybe the sun will shine today The clouds will blow away Maybe I won’t feel so afraid I will try to understand Either way
Maybe you still love me Maybe you don’t Either you will or you won’t Maybe you just need some time alone I will try to understand Everything has its plan Either way I’m gonna stay Right for you
Maybe the sun will shine today The clouds will roll away Maybe I won’t be so afraid I will understand everything has its plan Either way
"You Are My Face" I remember my mother’s Sister’s husband’s brother Working in the goldmine full-time Filling in for sunshine Filing into tight lines Of ordinary beehives The door screams I hate you Hate you hanging around my blue jeans Why is there no breeze No currency of leaves No current through the water wire No feelings I can see I trust no emotion I believe in locomotion But I've turned to rust as we've discussed Though I must have let you down too many times In the dirt and the dust
I have no idea how this happens All of my maps have been overthrown Happenstance has changed my plans So many times my heart has been outgrown Now everybody’s feeling all alone Can’t tell you who I am When everybody’s feeling all alone Can’t tell you who I am
I am looking forward Toward the shadows tracing bones Our faces stitched and sewing Our houses hemmed into homes Trying to be thankful Our stories fit into phones And our voices lift so easily A gift given accidentally When we’re not sure We’re not alone
"Impossible Germany" Impossible Germany Unlikely Japan
Wherever you go Wherever you land I’ll say what this means to me I’ll do what I can
Impossible Germany Unlikely Japan
The fundamental problem We all need to face This is important But I know you’re not listening Oh I know you’re not listening
If this was still new to me I wouldn’t understand
Impossible Germany Unlikely Japan
But this is what love is for To be out of place Gorgeous and alone Face to face
With no larger problems That need to be erased Nothing more important than to know Someone’s listening Now I know You’ll be listening
"Shake It Off" Oh, the band marched on in formation The brass was phasing tunes I couldn’t place Windows open and raining in Maroon, yellow, blue, gold and gray
The drunks were ricocheting The old buildings downtown Empty so long ago Windows broken and dreaming So happy to leave what was my home
With a sky blue sky This rotten time Wouldn’t seem so bad to me now Oh, I didn’t die I should be satisfied I survived That's good enough for now
With a sky blue sky This rotten time Wouldn’t seem so bad to me now Oh, if I didn’t die I should be satisfied I survived That's good enough for now
"Side With the Seeds" Tires type black Where the blacktop cracks Weeds spark through Dark green enough to be blue When the mysteries we believe in Aren’t dreamed enough to be true Some side with the leaves Some side with the seeds
The treetops nod the rain applauds The park grows dark And the swings all slowly die But you and I will be undefeated by agreeing to disagree No one wins but the thieves so why side with anything
The streetlights glow Comes and goes When the sun comes back As we all can plainly see Embracing the situation Is our only chance to be free I’ll side with you If you side with me
Sky Blue Sky Sunlight angles on A wooden floor at dawn A ceiling fan is on Chopping up my dreams What is left of them I take to sleep again Where I dare pretend I’m more than I seem
Tears get triggered Yours remind me Of the ice melting in my glass Finally full again So I listen for Your lips to break apart Into words
It definitely starts to spoil my heart Somewhere there’s a war Sometimes there is art
It definitely starts to spoil my heart Somewhere there’s a war Sometimes there is art
When I’m awake enough I’m gonna shake it off
Shake it off
Hotels hold me Thoughts horizon So many hearts Beating in one place Like a giant Beast with many souls No Just a body Full of holes
When I’m awake enough I’m gonna shake it off
When I’m awake enough I’m gonna shake it off
Shake it off
"Please Be Patient With Me" I should warn you When I’m not well I can’t tell Oh, there’s nothing I can do To make this easier for you
You’re gonna need to be patient with me
I’m this apple, this happening stone When I’m alone Oh, but my blessings get so blurred At the sound of your words
I’m gonna need you to be patient with me
How can I warn you when my tongue turns to dust Like we’ve discussed It doesn’t mean that I don’t care It means I’m partially there
You’re gonna need to be patient with me
"Hate It Here" I try to stay busy I do the dishes, I mow the lawn I try to keep myself occupied Even though I know you’re not coming home
I try to keep the house nice and neat I make my bed I change the sheets I even learned how to use the washing machine But keeping things clean doesn’t change anything
What am I gonna do when I run out of shirts to fold? What am I gonna do when I run out of lawn to mow? What am I gonna do if you never come home? Tell me, what am I gonna do?
I hate it I hate it here When you’re gone
I caught myself thinking I caught myself thinking once again Have to try to keep my mind out of this Try not to pretend
I’ll check the phone I’ll check the mail I’ll check the phone again and I call your mom She says you’re not there and I should take care
I hate it here When you’re gone I hate it I hate it here When you’re gone
I try to stay busy I take out the trash, I sweep the floor Try to keep myself occupied Cause I know you don’t live here anymore
"Leave Me (Like You Found Me)" That’s when I knew you You might be lonely too That’s what I wished for Somebody just like you To tell me what to do, honestly And leave me like you found me
Can you believe it I’m somebody just like you Content with being blue, honestly Leave me like you found me
I sit on the couch alone Where you sit when I’m not home And I feel so close to you
And down the city streets People are climbing the trees They’re finally up off their knees Honestly You leave me like you found me Can you leave me like you found me
"Walken" I’m walking All by myself I was talking to myself about you What am I going to do
I was singing This song about you I was thinking about singing This song for you
The more I think about it The more I know it’s true The more I think about it The more I’m sure it’s you Honey I think you’re just right You’re just right
I was walking Like I said by myself I was talking To myself about you Like I always do
The more I think about it The more I know it’s true The more I think about it The more I’m sure it’s you Honey, I think you’re just right You’re just right
"What Light" If you feel like singing a song And you want other people to sing along Just sing what you feel Don’t let anyone say it’s wrong
And if you’re trying to paint a picture But you’re not sure which colors belong Just paint what you see Don’t let anyone say it’s wrong
And if you’re strung out like a kite Or stung awake in the night It’s alright to be frightened
When there’s a light (what light) There’s a light (one light) There’s a light (white light) Inside of you
If you think you might need somebody To pick you up when you drag Don’t loose sight of yourself Don’t let anyone change your bag
And if the whole world’s singing your songs And all of your paintings have been hung Just remember what was yours is everyone’s from now on
And that’s not wrong or right But you can struggle with it all you like You'll only get uptight
Because there’s a light (what light) There’s a light (one light) There’s a light (white light) There’s a light (what light) There’s a light (one light) There’s a light (white light) There’s a light (what light) There’s a light (one light) There’s a light (white light) There’s a light (what light) There’s a light (one light) There’s a light (white light) Inside of you
"On and On and On" On and on and on we’ll stay together yeah On and on and on we’ll be together yeah You and I will try to stay together yeah On and on and on we’ll be together yeah
Please don’t cry we’re designed to die Don’t deny what’s inside On and on and on we’ll stay together yeah On and on and on On and on and on
One day we’ll disappear together in a dream However short or long our lives are going to be I will live in you or you will live in me Until we disappear together in a dream
Please don’t cry we’re designed to die You can’t deny even the gentlest tide On and on and on we’ll be together yeah On and on and on On and on and on We’re going to try
Please don’t cry This world of words and meanings makes you feel outside Something that you feel already deep inside You’ve denied Go ahead and cry
On and on and on we’ll stay together yeah On and on and on On and on and on
You and I will stay together yeah You and I will try to make it better yeah |

| Andrew Bird: Tour Dates + MP3s |

Andrew Bird appears to have more than mere avian powers, he also seems to affect the Apoidea family for he has set the indie hive buzzing. With last Tuesday's release of Armchair Apocrypha many bloggers have finally glommed onto the fact that Bird makes some fascinating music. On this new record Bird has collaborated, successfully, with electronic musician Martin Dosh who also puts out his own records as Dosh. Bird and Dosh learned how to work together while performing live and this led to the creation of one particular song on the new Bird record, "Simple X". Dosh often opened the shows with a solo performance and would play a song from his 2004 recording, Pure Trash, called "Simple Exercises". | The National: NEW MP3 "Fake Empire" |
This is the lead off track from the National's upcoming (May 22) album, Boxer. And it instantly shows those familiar with this outstanding band a few significant changes. Firstly, the piano, which is not a common instrument to be heard on a National record, played here, I'm guessing, by the talented leader of the band Doveman, Thomas Bartlett. Secondly, the production jumps out and grabs you by the lapels and it fits a band as rich musically and lyrically as The National. Lead singer, Matt Berninger, has a hefty baritone that I think benefits from the richer sound. Another curve thrown here is the brass instruments and this from the song title is a no-brainer... "Fake Empire". Brass horns were, and I suppose are, traditonally used to herald the Monarch of the British 'Empire'. Whether horns pop up on other tracks from the album I can't say, but I'm hoping that Mr Bartlett's piano make numerous appearances. This song has me very excited to hear more and to see the band when they tour later this year.

| BAND TO WATCH: One Hand Loves the Other |
When I clicked my way to Atlanta band One Hand Loves The Other's myspace I was intrigued as the music began to play. The song that was playing, "Burden of Barnacles", is built on the blips and bloops of a laptop and over these are laid the strings of cello and synththesizer. These aren't all, there's an airy flute flittering in and out and more, although above all these inorganic sounds soars the stunning voice of Lou Rodriquez. I wasn't sure if one of the women in the band was now singing, or not, but after a little googling I learned that Rodriguez does all the vocals. In this song he begins in his more than interesting, let's call it 'regular' voice., But abruptly he swings, or sweeps, up into the stratosphere, giving the song a lovely edge whether you know it's a man, or woman. This is surely dramatic music, music that may find a wider audience with the popularity of very dramatic Mercury Prize winners Antony & The Johnsons. This Atlanta based four piece show much promise and their collective talent will outshine any who see the vocal as a 'gimmick'. This is no gimmick, this is a gift. burden of barnacles [ mp3] from their s/t debut out May 2007 on StickFigure Recordstortoise [ mp3] |

| Modest Mouse: We Were Dead... REVIEWED |
Some of the heavyweights have weighed in with their take on the latest from Modest Mouse. I've never been much of a MM fan, I barely know their previous albums, but I love some of the songs on that Ugly Casanova album. Although from what I do know this new effort sounds much more commercial and will keep those who discovered the band through the song "Float On" happy. Also, I was under the mistaken impression that Brock wrote lyrics that stood out from the crowd... I see no evidence of that from this album. Evidently he's more of a tunesmith than a wordsmith.
Here's what some of the big boys (and girls) had to say.
From The New York Times:
Musically We Were Dead is about as clangorous as you might expect — "Steam Engenius" works hard to deserve its mechanistic lyrics — but it also has more of a pop sensibility than previous Modest Mouse efforts. This has something to do with the presence of the guitarist Johnny Marr, formerly a driving force of the Smiths. In ways that are noticeable but subtle, Mr. Marr lightens and softens the album. To a lesser extent, so does James Mercer of the Shins, singing background vocals on some tracks. read the full review
From Prefix Mag:
Hyper-produced and hyperactive, the members of Modest Mouse have virtually jettisoned their balance of angry stomping anthems mixed with the earnest slow-burners that gave them some heart ("Edit the Sad Parts" and West's "Bankrupt on Selling") in favor of a jarring, nonstop assault. read the full review
From Pitchfork:
...the most successful track on We Were Dead is the one that pushes hardest against the group's established formula: the almost gaudy single "Dashboard". With Modest Mouse's trademark itchy guitars all but drowned out by brass fanfares and slurring strings, "Dashboard" is the Vegas version of "Float On", and it works as an experiment to see just how far they can push the dissonance of Brock's multi-tracked barking against slick, commercially ambitious surroundings. read the full review
From Entertainment Weekly:
Meanwhile, Brock has never sounded more charismatic, or chameleonlike, as he alternately croons, spits, and bronchially howls through lyrics which, though as gnomic as on previous albums, boast a distinct nautical theme. Talk of oceans, boats, and ''saline tea'' — whatever that is — pepper proceedings like some dark, hallucinogenic tribute to the Jimmy Buffett oeuvre. read the full review
From The LA Times:
But, at 62 minutes, this album feels self-indulgent, and some of the 14 songs leave little impression. Still, there's "Float On"-esque sing-along potential in, among others, the elastic, sardonic "We've Got Everything". read the full review

| The Sleeping Years: You And Me Against The World |
Do you know that when I first heard Irishman Dale Grundle's The Sleeping Years, back in May of last year, I thought this would be a great unknown band to post about and I did just that... post about them. In fact I began the post like this, "So, you want to hear your new favourite unsigned band?", and I then proceeded to talk about the mysterous allure of Grundle's quietly seductive vocals. Well, guess what? The Sleeping Years have got a recording to offer now and it's called You and Me Against the World and this is how Mr Grundle describes the new five track EP: "The "You And Me Against The World" EP will be limited to 500 copies in unique hand-made sleeves designed by Pika Pika, numbered and signed by me. Each cd is in a wrap-around card sleeve featuring printed lyrics. The card sleeve is contained in beautiful hand-stitched cloth with a name tag attached."
The title track is the special one here for it gives you not only Grundle's voice, but it delivers it wrapped in a catchy melody. When you first hear him in that title track, the name John Darnielle is quite likely to float to the surface, there's a near frantic edge to his voice, albeit one that is dulled and sweetened in comparision to Darnielle's agitation. In fact his vocal is an interesting cross between the Mountain Goat and the Decemberists' Colin Meloy. Although this early impression will be washed away by listening to "Dressed For Rain" (you can stream the song on his myspace page linked below) where his voice is sad, confidential, and quietly his and his alone. He is a one man band here on this recording and a definite talent musically, vocally, and lyrically. This is a fantastic song, one of those rare treats that grow in favour the more you hear it.
you and me against the world
If this music moves you, you would do yourself a favour to look into the music of his former band, Catchers.
You And Me Against The World Tracklist (release date - March 21): 1. You and me against the world (acoustic) 2. The lockkeeper's cottage (acoustic) 3. The 22nd house 4. Dressed for rain 5. How long have you waited?

| Arts & Crafts SXSW 07 Sampler @ eMusic |
Here's something new at eMusic (you do know about eMusic, don't you?), a seven track sampler of Arts & Crafts bands (A of H,The Dears, Young Galaxy, Amy Millan) and it opens with the most accessible song from Apostle and Hustle's (left) latest record, National Anthem of Nowhere. The album is an improvement over their debut, Folkloric Feel, it has more focus, they've whittled away any, and all, extraneous sounds that were on the debut disc. And that aforementioned song, "My Sword Hand's Anger", will get your feet moving and blood pumping as it opens and continues with the kick drum's quickened heartbeat. It's a simple song that shines through it's sharp lyrics and tastefully arranged structure... give a listen and then go here to buy the album (you won't regret it). my sword hand's anger Arts & Crafts SXSW 07 Sampler Tracklist: My Sword Hand's Anger - Apostle Of Hustle Bandwagoneers - The Dears Skinny Boy - Amy Millan Outside the City - Young Galaxy You and I (Are a Gang of Losers) - The Dears Losin' You - Amy Millan Swing Your Heartache - Young Galaxy Check out eMusic.com's great selection, DRM-free downloads and low monthly cost.* * * * Some notable albums found at emusic include: Aloe Blacc - Shine Through Tapes 'n Tapes - The Loon Frank Zappa - Freak Out Sufjan Stevens - Illinois Beirut - Gulag Orkestar and Pompeii AND Arcade Fire's Neon Bible |

| Ted Leo: 'Living With The Living' MP3s + World Tour Dates |
Ted Leo and the band ( myspace page) will release their fifth full length, and first on Touch and Go, this coming Tuesday, March 20th. Produced by Brendan Canty of Fugazi, the album, Living With The Living, offers fans, and soon to be fans, FIFTEEN tracks! On the new disc will be these two songs, "Some Beginner's Mind" and "Army Bound" and here are those songs in demo form. These have been available on the Ted Leo homepage for over ten months, but they still sound great (now how does he do that?).
Give a listen and just imagine what you'll find on the record. If you haven't heard Leo, be prepared to discover a new favourite, he is simply one of the best solo artists working the indie fields today. And if you have heard Leo and you're an old fan, you'll likely be happy to know he's returned to his punk roots with regards to the sound of the record, as opposed to Shake The Sheets. The new song "La Costa Brava" has more than a whiff of renowned British band The Jam, and that's a good thing in my mind. And if you can't imagine how good that new record will sound here's a little taste: BUY Living With The Living Download Ted Leo/Pharmacists albums, tracks and songs for free with eMusic's trial subscription.

| Arcade Fire's Neon Bible Debuts at #2 on Billboard |
Via Pitchfork:
Arcade Fire's Neon Bible Debuts at #2
The Arcade Fire's second album, Neon Bible, claimed the No. 2 spot on the U.S. Billboard 200 charts this week, stomping all over new LPs from Daughtry, Relient K and Robin Thicke. According to Billboard, the album sold 92,000 copies this week; only Notorious B.I.G.'s Greatest Hits sold more. That album, which was released ten years after the rapper's death, sold 99,000 copies. This position is miles ahead of Funeral's chart ranking, which peaked at #131. The album also topped the Independent and Rock Album charts. Neon Bible also took #2 in the UK, coming in second to the Kaiser Chiefs' Yours Truly, Angry Mob.

| Modest Mouse: We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank LYRICS |
MODEST MOUSE will see their latest released on March 20th. It'll be their first with former Smiths guitarist, Johnny Marr, and it does mark a change for the band as they have become even more radio friendly since the last album.

parting of the sensory [mp3]
We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank TRACKLIST: 1. March Into the Sea 2. Dashboard 3. Fire It Up 4. Florida 5. Parting of the Sensory 6. Missed the Boat 7. We've Got Everything 8. Fly Trapped in a Jar 9. Education 10. Little Motel 11. Steam Engenius 12. Spitting Venom 13. People As Places As People 14. Invisible
Here are the lyrics to the new album. These lyrics were found on various sites online and there is no guarantee that they are correct. If you find some glaring errors and want to set the record (or song) straight, please leave your welcome help in the comments. Thanks.
1. March Into The Sea If food needed pleasing You'd suck all the seasoning off! Suck it off!
Well, treat me like disease Like the rats and the fleas Ahaha! Ahaha!
Bang your head like a gong 'Cause it's filled with all wrong Ahaha! Clang, clang, clang!
If you think you know enough to know you know we've had enough And if you think you don't, you probably will
Our tails wagged and then fell off But we just turned back, marched into the sea
Well, treat me like the sea Oh-so salty and mean Ahaha! Oh, ha ha!
Well, treat me like disease Like the rats and the fleas Ahahaaa! Haa!
I'll be beating my heart's record for speeding I'll be beating the record for heart skipping
Oh, the doggone tails, well they fell off But we just turned back, marched into the sea ..Well, we just turned around, marched into the sea
Take all that you need Let my saxophone free Till it's gone, till it's gone
Well, this coffee you bleed Like the leaves of a tree Ahaha! Ahaha!
Let's shake hands if you want But you-- both hands are gone! Oh, haha! Haha!
Well, treat me like the sea I'm so salty and mean Ahaha.. Oh, treat me like the sea Oh-so salty and mean Ahaha..
Well, treat me like the leaves Like the rats and the fleas Bang your head like a gong 'Cause you call it all wrong Move your tune Clang, clang Clang, clang Clang, clang Clang, claaang!
Cut me down like the trees Like the lumber or weeds Drink me out of the sea And then teach me to breathe Give me forests so dead I wish death on myself Give me forests so dead I wish death on myself Ahaha! Aha! Aha! Aha! Ahaaaaah!
Well, we all saw the rat Take a happy encore For the phone speaks we all And the running bulls Ahaha! March on! March on! March on! March Ooooooon! Well, march on!
2. Dashboard Well, it would've been, could've been worse than you would ever know. Oh, the dashboard melted, but we still have the radio.
Oh, it should've been, could've been worse than you would ever know. Well, you told me about nowhere well it sounds like someplace I'd like to go.
Oh, it could've been, should've been worse than you would ever know. Well, the windshield was broken but I love the fresh air y'know. (The dashboard melted but we still have the radio)
Oh, it would've been, could've been worse than you would ever know, oh! (The dashboard melted but we still have the radio) Oh, we talked about nothing which was more than I wanted you to know-oh-oh-oh-oh. Now here we go!
Oh! It would've been, could've been worse than it had even gone Well, the car was on blocks, but I was already where I want. (It was impossible, we ran it good, we ran it good)
Why should we ever even ever really even get to know? (It was impossible, we ran it good, we ran it good) Oh if the world don't like us it'll shake us just like we were a co-oh-oh-oh-old. Now here we go!
Well we scheme and we scheme but we always blow it we've yet to crash, but we still might as well enjoy it Standing at a light switch to each east and west horizon, Every dawn you're surprising, And the evening was consoling Saying "See it wasn't quite as bad as" Well, it would've been, could've been worse than you would ever know.
I was patiently erasing and recording the wrong episodes after you had proved my point wrong, It wasn't like I'd let it go, oh-oh-oh. Oh-oh-oh. I just wanted to catch the last laugh of this show.
Yeah, it would've been, could've been worse than you would ever know. Oh, the dashboard melted, but we still have the radio. (The dashboard melted, but we ran it good, we ran it good)
Hard-wired to conceive, so much we'd have to stow it Even needs have needs, tiny giants made of tinier giants. Don't wear eyelids so I don't miss the last laugh of this show. (The dashboard melted but we still have the radio)
Oh, we could've been, should've been worse than you would ever know. (The dashboard melted but we still have the radio) Well, you told me about nowhere well it sounds like someplace I'd like to go-oh-oh-oh-oh. Now here we go!
Well we scheme and we scheme but we always blow it we've yet to crash, but we still might as well enjoy it Standing at a light switch to each east and west horizon, Every dawn you're surprising, And the evening was consoling Saying "See it wasn't quite as bad as"
Oh it would've been, could've been worse than you would ever know.
3. Fire It Up Etceteranough? (x8)
Fire it up, fire it up When we finally turn it over Make a B-line towards the border Have a drink, you've had enough
Fire it up, fire it up If you need some conversation Bring a magazine to read around our broke down transportation
Fire it up Etceteranough? (x3)
Fire it up, fire it up When we find the perfect water We'll hang out on the shore just long enough to leave our clothes there
Find enough, find enough Oh we ate all of the oranges off the navels of our lovers grabbed a book and read the cover
It honestly was beautifully done Like trying to hide the daylight from the sun But even if we had been sure enough it's true we really didn't know Even if we knew which way to head but still we probably wouldn't go
Fire it up, fire it up We pushed off we're rolling boulders crashing down the mirrored stairways two of lifes best mind canaries
Fire it up, fire it up When we fix the carburetor then we'll push off once again in an hour or so later
It honestly was beautifully bold Like trying to save an ice cube from the cold But even if we had been sure enough it's true we really didn't know Even if we knew which way to head but still we probably wouldn't go
Well we always (x2) had it all (x2) (x3)
4. Florida Although we often wondered It was no thing of wonder The shit that flew from our minds Grass stains and fresh fruit Reminds our shoes of horse glue On this ridiculous climb With great tall vision We built ourselves a mission To ride out motives decide Oh, with vague description Of what we have been missing So why would anyone try
It was always worth it That’s the part I seem to hide And the busy ant empire Put all your clothes inside
I wasn’t always cargo
I guess I’ll pack up my mind It took so much effort Not to make an effort Oh, what a flawless design
It was always worth it That’s the part I seem to hide And the busy ant empire Put all your clothes inside
Even as I left Florida (yee-ha)
It was always worth it That’s the part I seem to hide And the busy ant empire Put all your clothes inside
Even as I left Florida Far enough, far enough Wasn’t far enough
Couldn’t quite seem to escape myself Far enough, far enough Far from Florida We were all drowning in cruise control Far enough, far enough Wasn’t far enough
I stood on my heart supports thinkin’ “Oh my God, I’ll probably have to carry this whole load.” I couldn’t remember if I tried I couldn’t remember if I took my brain out, threw it so directly a the goal I couldn’t remember if I…. I could have my mind erased And still not know exactly what I don’t already know
Even as I left Florida
5. Parting of the Sensory There's no work in walking in to fuel the talk I would grab my shoes and then away I'd walk Through all the stubborn beauty I start at the dawn Until the sun had fully stopped Never walking away from Just a way to pull apart Dehydrate back into minerals A life long walk to the same exact spot
Carbon's anniversary The parting of the sensory Old old mystery The parting of the sensory
Who the hell made you the boss? We placed our chips in all the right spots But still lost Any shithead who had ever walked Could take the ship and do a much finer job This fit like clothes made out of wasps Aw, fuck it I guess I lost
The parting of the sensory Carbon's anniversary Just part it again if you please Carbon's anniversary
Who the hell made you the boss If you say what to do I know what not to stop If you were the ship then who would ever get on The weather changed it for the worse And came down on us like it had been rehearsed And like we hope, but change will surely come And be awful for most but really good for some I took a trip to the exact same spot We pulled the trigger, but we forgot to cock And every single shot
Aw, fuck it I guess we lost
Some day you will die and Somehow something’s going to steal your carbon
Some day you will die and Somehow something’s going to steal your carbon
Well some day you will die somehow and Something’s going to steal your carbon
Some day you will die and Someone’s or something’s will steal your carbon
Some day something will die and Somehow you'll figure out how Often you will die somehow and Something going to steal your carbon
Well some day you will die somehow and Something’s going to steal your carbon
6. Missed the Boat While we're on the subject Could we change the subject now? I was knocking on your ears Don't worry, you were always out Looking towards the future We were begging for the past Well we knew we had the good things But those never seemed to last Oh please just last
Everyone's unhappy Everyone's ashamed Well we all just got caught looking At somebody else's page Well nothing ever went Quite exactly as we planned Our ideas held no water But we used them like a damn
Oh, and we carried it all so well As if we got a new position Oh, and I laugh all the way to hell Saying yes, this is a fine promotion Oh, and I laugh all the way to hell
Of course everyone goes crazy Over such and such and such We made ourselves a ??? We just used it as a crutch We were suddenly uncertain At least I'm pretty sure I am Well we didn't need the water But we just built that go god damn
Oh, and I know this all myself I stood in front for all the people Oh, and I know this all myself We listen while life hangs on And the sound of life's sweet bliss
Was it ever worth it? Was there all that much to gain? Well we knew we missed the boat And we'd already missed the plane We didn't read the invite We just dance at our wake All our favorites were playing So we could shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
Tiny curtains open and we heard the tiny clap of little hands A tiny man would tell a little joke and get a tiny laugh from all the folks Sitting drifting around in bubbles and thinking it was us that carried them When we finally got it figured out that we had truly missed the boat
Oh, and we carried it all so well As if we got a new position Oh, and we owned all the tools ourselves But not the skills to make a shelf with Oh, what useless tools ourselves
7. We've Got Everything We've got everything We've got everything We've got everything down to a science so I guess we know everything We know everything We know everything
We know everything was built to expire so I guess we've done everything If we carried it out to sea Pushed it over the edge we'd have all been through, Well first off Gary got drunk fell asleep in his car til about noon Flat Top Tony got all messed up split his lip chasing cheap perfume Well look at our boat in the bay it looks like some sad ass little canoe
We've done everything We've done everything We've done everything like trial by fire so I guess we'll stop trying now We've tried everything We've tried everything
We've tried everything half assed and as liars and thats how we've got everything If we carried it out to sea pushed it over the edge we could have all been through Well no one even bothered showin' up but we still did what we should have thought through We crashed in like waves into the stars Didn't want it didn't need it but we knew that we could see it so we opened up the door We receded like waves out of the stars Didn't want it didn't need it but we knew that we could steal it left it dying on the floor
We've got everything We've got everything We've got everything down to a science so I guess we know everything We've got everything We've done everything We've tried everything We've got everything We've got everything
8. Fly Trapped In A Jar Of part and parcel, so well we're already dead, well it's probably been said, that it's always been said, that,
one wing isn't even enough, it isn't even enough, it isn't even enough, it isn't even enough, to leave,
one wing isn't even enough, it wasn't even enough, it wasn't even enough, it wasn't even enough, to leave, (HAHAHA HAAA HAAA HA)
I'm gonna' shake myself right out the door, I'm gonna' take myself when it's finally over, I'm gonna' let my own bad self take over, I'm gonna' move my arm out with my shoulder, and
one wing wasn't even enough, it wasn't even enough, it wasn't even enough, it wasn't even enough, to leave,
one wing wasn't even enough, it wasn't even enough, it wasn't even enough, it wasn't even enough, to leave,
one wing wasn't even enough, it wasn't even enough, it wasn't even enough, it wasn't even enough, to leave,
First off Gary was on trial and drunk before we left bed, as things got better was it hard to say that he had no idea, well I hadn't noticed but the people really noticed that they really didn't want us around, so we all just opened up our mouthes and walked to this town, well I was walking just a little bit sideways and you were walking sideways too, well I hadn't learned when a front door can be used, here it goes now...
We had darkened doors so we didn't read what the sign read Though simple enough it was to me really tough the ground needs to be fed, well I hadn't noticed but the people really noticed that they didn't really want us around, so not a single one of us will ever leave town, here we go sir...
our bodies were laid out, they were laid for fifteen yards, well two feet above each of our heads was a fly trapped in a jar, well I hadn't noticed but the people really noticed that they really didn't want us around, so every single one of us hit the ground, HERE WE GO NOW...
one wing wans't even uhh, one wing wasn't even enough,
oh pardon pardon, so well it's already been said, that it's always been said that we're already dead
9. Education Call it education It was somewhere in between You gave me some sound advice But I wasn't listening
After we had capsized I could tell you how you thought Well, I'm not sure But laid to rest on the city on the wall
Not quite conversation It was somewhere in between You said everything is taught And I listened patiently
All this dog and pony Still monkeys the whole time We could not help from flinging shit In our modern suits and ties
Our instincts, they were cringing About how we lived our lives It didn't seem we'd lived enough To even get to die
All these diss distractions So beautifully complex Well, I loved life's surprises so much I don't want to know what's happened
Stubborn shouting, said "I don't do what you do" I don't know Could it really hear highly if you highly care? And you don't Stubborn beauty, stubborn beauty I've been away
Hardly education It was somewhere in between Oh, I hit the roof but I had Aimed for the ceiling
Hardly education All them books I didn't They just sat there on my shelf Looking much smarter than me
Good old Nostradamus He knew the whole damn time That always being east from west Someone is there fighting
Stubborn shouting, said "I don't do what you do" I don't know Could it really hear highly if you highly care? And you don't Stubborn beauty, stubborn beauty I've been away Stubborn beauty, stubborn beauty I don't know anyway Stubborn beauty, stubborn beauty I don't know Could it really hear highly if you highly care? And you don't Stubborn beauty, stubborn beauty Uh.. I fell away Stubborn beauty, stubborn beauty Oh, very well, then Stubborn beauty, stubborn beauty Oh, very well, then Stubborn beauty, stubborn beauty Oh, very well, then
Oh, very well, then
10. Little Motel I hope that you like it in your little motel and I hope that the suite sleeps and suits you well well I can see it as time and a sight through smell and thats why its nice to be by yourself
Cause thats what I'm waiting for That's what I'm waiting for That's what I'm waiting for, aren't I? That's what I'm waiting for That's what I'm waiting for That's what I'm waiting for darlin'
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and they both tell me that we're better than this
Cause thats what I'm waiting for That's what I'm waiting for That's what I'm waiting for, aren't I? That's what I'm waiting for That's what I'm waiting for That's what I'm waiting for darlin'
We trade tit for tat like that for this and I don't think that there was an insult that was missed I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and I'm very sorry
Cause thats what I'm waiting for That's what I'm waiting for That's what I'm waiting for, aren't I? That's what I'm waiting for That's what I'm waiting for That's what I'm waiting for darlin'
it rained and its over a shooting star landed directly on our broke down little car we fold and we had made a wish that we would be missed If one another just did not exist
Cause thats what we're waiting for That's what we're waiting for That's what we're waiting on, aren't we? That's what we're waiting for That's what we're waiting for That's what we're waiting for darlin'
That's what we're waiting for That's what we're waiting for That's what we're waiting for aren't we?
11. Steam Engenius (These are incomplete) I was born in the factory Far away from the milky teat What's the use? Oh, what's the use?
You cheered as I was split in half A mechanical sacrificial calf for you Oh, all for you
Steam engenius, you see Steam engenius enough to answer anything you need But what's the use?
Human nature was installed in me. I did what was right, but naturally It wasn't natural though not my fault
I held my hands The beating heart of a robot He drived his car He's sitting there burning Now in the parking lot Just for you
What a waste of time What a waste of words What a waste of strength Well, I spoke in binary And you see far You meant for clenching your leg
I was born in the factory Far away from the milk and tea What's the use? Oh, what's the use?
Bliss through waters, I was split in half A mechanical sacrificial calf that flew Oh, off they flew
Steam engenius, you see Steam engenius enough to answer anything you need And I like speed
I held my hands The beating heart of a robot He drived his car He's sitting there Waiting car in the parking lot Out for you
What a waste of time What a waste of words What a waste of strength Well, I smoke in my air And you spoke far You meant for dizzying lay
(I was born in the factory)
Both hassle men Half like a joke Trying to make another joke Laugh, haha
Stasisity's what you brought Like a rickshaw getting pulled around by another rickshaw Rickshaw..
In the past talking present tense Gonna break it Gonna wreck it Gonna try to make it all make sense
Stasisity's what you got Like a rickshaw getting pulled around by another rickshaw
Steam engenius, you see Steam engenius enough to bring my own damn doom What could I do?
I been blamed then blamed the groom Well, deep inside everybody knew it was them It's caught on them
Things rain in stories Greek I didn't want it, you gave me deity It was you Yeah, all for you
I was born in the factory Far away from the milk and tea What's the use? Oh, what is the use?
I held my hands The beating heart of a robot He drived his car He's sitting there crying All the way in the parking lot Just for you
I'll start up the man (?) Then rip into my (?)
(?) I didn't even know that was my own damn plan
What a waste of time What a waste of words What a waste of breath Well, I spoke it by now You broke your thought You meant for (?)
I held my hands The beating heart of a robot He drived his car He's sitting there crying Now waiting for you in the parking lot Going woo-hoo
Stasisity's what you got Like a rickshaw getting pulled around by another rickshaw
12. Spitting Venom we were spitting venom at most everyone we know if the damned gave us a road map then we'd know just were to go now let it drop
let it all drop let it all drop oh let it all fall off
well you were talking soda pop you were talking quite a lot the opinions that I do not give the opinions I aint got so let it drop
let it all drop let is all drop let it all fall off there oh
well you were spitting venom at most everyone you know if you truly knew the gravity you'd know which way to go well let it drop

13. People As Places As People To answer a question It’ll probably take more If you’re already there Well then you probably don’t know Well we were the people That we wanted to know And we’re the places that we wanted to go It’s hard to get hold of And hard to let go Always something we look for From the day we were born Instead we’re the people that we wanted to know And we’re the places that we wanted to go Yeah we’re the places that we wanted to go We’re the places that we wanted to go
Always asking a question And I don’t want to know Like the wind across strings That had finally let go And the people you love But you didn’t quite know They’re the places that you wanted to go Bark at the neighbors And then bark at the dog Sniffing the wind Whimpering for someone to know But we were the people that we wanted to know And we’re the places that we wanted go Yeah we’re the places that we wanted to go Yeah we’re the places that we wanted to go
It was not the intention But we let it all go Well it messed up the function And sure fucked up the flow I hardly have people that I needed to know ‘Cause you’re the people that I wanted to know All this scrambling around Hunting high and then low Looking for the face love Or somewhere to go I hardly have places that I need to go ‘Cause you’re the places that I wanted to go Yeah you’re the places that we wanted to go Yeah you’re the places that we wanted to go
[You're the people that we wanted to know] [Shouldn't have to ask] [You shouldn't have to ask] ['Cause we are your real place]
14. Invisible Oh, well lesson dance And shoot to god A storm-suffered owl You're not invisible inside your car No matter what stupid sort of mission you're on Well, you're not invisible inside your car
I go absolutely mental Good ramblin' George Well, you're not invisible inside your car No matter, you could breathe it like your flies in a jar Yeah, you're not invisible
I like the sailing teeming Well, it's true that the moon could pull it back and far away from me I should just let it be Well, it's true that the moon could pull it back and far away from me (And it's sad)
Oh, we had to have some kind Room shaped like a charm Well, you weren't invisible Not all along No matter how many eagles came in the door We were not invisible I knew that
I like the sailing teeming Well, it's true that the moon could pull it back and far away from me And there's the orphan sea We were never invisible but that I guess we did not see
Of course this all had been laid down Way before we lay down for it all Before we had a course, of course Of course this all had been laid down
Of course we lay down.. Of course we lay down.. Of course we lay down.. Of course we lay down.. Of course we lay down.. Of course we lay down....
I like the sailing teeming Well, it's true that the moon could pull it back and far away from me I like the orphan sea Well, we were never invisible but that I guess we could not see
We'll get crushed by the ocean But it will not get us wet Crushed by the ocean But it will not get us wet Crushed by the ocean But it will not get us wet Crushed by the ocean But it will not get us wet |

| KINGS OF LEON: Tour Dates: Coachella, Bonnaroo, Letterman, and Leno |
PRESS RELEASE:
Kings of Leon have confirmed the first leg of a nationwide US tour. The tour is in support of the new record, Because Of The Times, to be released on April 3rd. Bookended by appearances at the Coachella and Bonnaroo festivals, the tour will start at Coachella and heads to Seattle on May 2. After the June 14 date in Columbus, OH, the tour finishes at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. More touring is to follow during the summer and into the fall and winter of 2007.
On March 26, one week before release date, Kings of Leon return to the Late Show with David Letterman to perform the single "On Call." One month later, on April 27, just before the Coachella performance, the band will return to theTonight Show with Jay Leno.
To make Because Of The Times, the band turned once again to producers Ethan Johns and Angelo Petraglia. It's the Tennessee-based band's first record since 2004's widely acclaimed Aha Shake Heartbreak, which firmly established the Followills - Nathan, Caleb, Jared and Matthew - as international stars.
Coming off an immense amount of touring over the last two years both as headliners, world-wide festival staples and openers for the likes of U2, Bob Dylan and Pearl Jam, the ambitious and eclectic "Because Of The Times" (the title refers to an annual preachers' conference the boys attended growing up) is Kings of Leon's most diverse collection yet and represents a major evolution for the band. Brimming with ideas, it represents a huge leap forward both in songwriting and musical prowess. "We took the limitations off of ourselves," says frontman/rhythm guitarist Caleb. "We went into the studio with an open mind, thinking let's do whatever it takes to get these songs to the next level. Because we really have a lot of music inside of us and a lot of different places we can go."
Adds drummer/singer Nathan: "We weren't scared to try anything. I think that's the difference between this album and the last. We weren't timid at all. Every song showed us something we had inside of ourselves that we didn't know existed, which enabled us to be even bolder on the next song."
Early media response to "Because Of The Times" has been glowing. The "Observer Monthly" in England awarded the record five stars, while in America,"Esquire" hailed "Because Of The Times" is "a classic rock album in the truest sense, and "Filter" said, the record "is the Kings' fiery repentance for unplanned pregnancies, black Camaros and the sins of the road, and it is their finest confession to date." "American Songwriter" said the record is "heavy on the emotion and insistent hooks that remain KOL trademarks," and "Relix" noted "the Kings of Leon may be fit for a crown."

| Latest Addition To The JAGJAGUWAR Label: LIGHTNING DUST |
Press Release:
"Jagjaguwar is proud to announce the imminent release of LIGHTNING DUST's self-titled debut on June 19, 2007.
LIGHTNING DUST is Amber Webber and Joshua Wells, who have been playing together for many years as part of BLACK MOUNTAIN. They've toured the world and have played impenetrable space-rock to the unlikeliest of audiences. With an abundance of creative energy to spare, the two decided to start a separate project together. Committing themselves to a more simple approach with Lightning Dust, Webber and Wells also decided to escape the comforts of their familiar instruments and writing styles. On their debut, minimal and spacious arrangements and a moody, theatrical vocal-style aptly expose the demons, creating songs that creep into your bones with a haunting chill. Lightning Dust will be touring North America in June with good friends The Cave Singers, so please stay tuned for tour dates as they are confirmed. Also, in the latter half of this year, Webber and Wells will rejoin the rest of the Black Mountain army for touring prior to the release of the second Black Mountain full-length, slated to come out the very beginning of 2008 on Jagjaguwar."
What do they sound like? Like Amber Webber's back country warble set to minor key sadness... in other words, they sound great. 3 songs are streaming on their myspace page, which is linked above.

| Wilco's Sky Blue Sky: Album Stream March 11th |
Via Billboard.com:
Wilco Unfazed By Early Album Leak
"To stem the tide, the group will stream "Sky Blue Sky" from 9 a.m to 9 p.m. ET this Sunday (March 11) on its official Web site."
"Tweedy: A piece of art is not a loaf of bread. When someone steals a loaf of bread from the store, that’s it. The loaf of bread is gone. When someone downloads a piece of music, it’s just data until the listener puts that music back together with their own ears, their mind, their subjective experience. How they perceive your work changes your work. Treating your audience like thieves is absurd. Anyone who chooses to listen to our music becomes a collaborator. "

| Wilco's Sky Blue Sky: "Shake It Off" MP3 |
Wilco's Jeff Tweedy (left) once said in a poem (Another Great Thing) "...the best way to feel your blood is to lie...", and after listening to him sing the new songs on Sky Blue Sky, or anything else for that matter, that seems like a contradiction because, for me, no one sounds so utterly honest when they sing as Tweedy does. I've been trying to get at what I like so much about his voice and I've decided it's his simple honesty. The Tweedy voice is nothing to write home about and yet it captures the listener by making you believe every word he sings. I love this voice, there is a wounded country boy who's seen too much of the city in there (perhaps he lost that stuffie). Funny, he sounds great doing the older alt-country stuff, but for me that voice of his sounds better when it uses the contrast of it's alt-country tinged core in the heart of a rock song or, what I like to call, one of Wilco's alt-city songs. Here's one of those alt-city songs from the upcoming album Sky Blue Sky [May 15th on Nonesuch Records], an album which does a great job of showing how inventive and fluid a guitarist Nels Cline is... and once again, how honest a performer Jeff Tweedy is. shake it off [mp3] FIND MORE WILCO MP3s HERE. |

| Feist MP3: "One Year A.D." |
I have been listening to Feist's upcoming record and am happy to find it more closely resembles her earliest solo work on 1999's Monarch (Lay Down Your Jewelled Head). I think this new record is much closer to how Feist wishes to present herself and her music. Let It Die was an experiment, a very successful one, but an experiment nonetheless. But I am merely speculating here, perhaps this is how she always works and her upcoming effort, The Reminder, is also an experiment.
From Monarch here is, "One Year A.D.", it's guitars, drums, and a little rockin'. This is one of my favourite Feist songs...

| Iron and Wine's New Album: Shepherd's Dog |
FROM billboard.com: "After recording an EP and touring with Calexico, as well as taking time off to rear his infant daughter, Iron & Wine principal Sam Beam has wrapped his next studio album, "The Shepherd's Dog." The 12-track set is due in late September via Sub Pop and will be supported with a two-month fall tour of North America and Europe. "That tour affected me a lot," Beam tells Billboard.com of his time spent with Calexico. "They're such good musicians. I already knew I wanted to do a much freer record; a little bit more of a playful record. Their influence just helped me even more." Beam says the new album has a "wider sonic palette" than anything he's previously released. Among the guests are Calexico's Joey Burns and Paul Niehaus, Tin Hat Trio accordionist Rob Burger and Califone's Brian Deck. "There's some waltzes, reggae-influenced stuff and some straight-up West African highlife music," he says, the latter style of which crops up on "House by the Sea." A single, likely led by album track "Boy With a Coin," is being eyed for a summer release backed by two of the four songs from the "Shepherd's Dog" sessions that did not make the final cut. "It's got an African-sounding guitar thing. It's kind of familiar, but at the same time pretty indicative of the playfulness of this new record," Beam says of "Boy With a Coin." With the exception of "Carousel," every song had its basis in a backlog of material that Beam has been gradually chipping away at for years. "It's still pretty sizable," he admits. "I'm already working on the next one. A lot of them, you think you're on the right track, but when it comes time to record, they don't seem different enough." "The Shepherd's Dog" is the follow-up to 2004's "Our Endless Numbered Days," which has sold nearly 200,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Beam attributes the three-year gap in new albums to working in his new home studio. "This is the first time I was ever actually able to do some stuff and then sit on it for awhile and react to what we'd done," he says. "I ended up taking a lot longer, basically just because I had the time." The Shepherd's Dog Tracklist: 01 Pagan Angel and a Borrowed Car 02 White Tooth Man 03 Lovesong of the Buzzard 04 Carousel 05 House by the Sea 06 Innocent Bones 07 Wolves (Song of the Shepherd's Dog) 08 Resurrection Fern 09 Boy With a Coin 10 The Devil Never Sleeps 11 Peace Beneath the City 12 Flightless Bird, American Mouth Iron and Wine MP3s: jesus the mexican boy lion's mane naked as we came southern anthem |

| Fulton Lights: Debut Album Release + MP3s |
Andrew Spencer Goldman is the prime force behind Brooklyn NY's Fulton Lights, a project which sees it's mood built as much upon the softly breathed vocals of Goldman as the sparse crisp instrumentation.
This Tuesday March 6th will be the release date of his self-titled debut album after releasing music as John Guilt and Maestro Echoplex. This is chill out music for urbanites who can't bear to release all of their city-bred anxiety. Or for small town folk yearning for 2 am in the 24 hour urban decay cycle.
There'll be a CD release party in NYC on March 15th at Tonic, with Frances, and Still (x-dj of dalek doing experimental turntable set--Still is now playing in Fulton Lights).
The show starts at 8pm and is $8. ++Fulton Lights++ Official Site * Myspace * Buy - Fulton Lights * More MP3s * Label

| Will Arcade Fire Turn Indie Mainstream? |
The Arcade Fire may just be the band to put indie music into your average mainstream household. And by 'indie' I mean artists on an independent label, in this instance, Merge Records. AF's new album, Neon Bible, is good, even better than Funeral, but it feels kind of mainstream to me and that's because of Win Butler's songwriting, the guy's edgy enough, but his music isn't from the edge, it's much closer to the middle, the mainstream. AF are kind of the opposite of another band with a forthcoming album, Modest Mouse. AF are an indie band who sound kind of mainstream while Modest Mouse are a major label mainstream act who sound like an indie band. Once again that's due mainly to the band's (Modest Mouse's) leader in voice and verse, Isaac Brock. Ranging from his off-the-wall softer talk-singing to his phlegmy barking shout, the guy just sounds 'indie'. Although that won't hold them back too much, as their upcoming record, We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, has several cases of viral music encoded upon itself. Starting with the obvious "Dashboard", and continuing with "Parting Of The Sensory", "Missed The Boat", and "We've Got Everything", these songs will draw new fans into the mouse hole. So, I'm going to predict that the combination of Modest Mouse's great new 'indie' sounding mainsteam record and Arcade Fire's very good 'mainstream' sounding indie record will bring even more people, whose musical tastes have been, and continue to be, formed by whitewashed radio, exposure to a deep, deep well of great indie music. Will this be good for independent music? What? The massively bleeding from the gut major label recording industry sending their sharks into the quiet freshwater lakes of indie music, good? No. Someone (or something) is going to get hurt. But I'm not blaming any indie bands for what I'm predicting, to me the villain here is money and that's in the hands of the major labels. But it was bound to happen after The O.C.-ing of indie and the Garden State-ing of The Shins , plus independent bands like Death Cab For Cutie and The Decemberists getting major label deals. Big money is moving in and along with it what it does... good and bad. | The Rosebuds: NEW Album 'Night Of The Furies' |
"The Furies were Roman goddesses named Tisiphone (avenger of murder), Megaera (grudging), and Alecto (constant anger). They were born from night and they punish crimes on Earth that go unpunished. We conjured them during a tropical depression in the summer of 2006. We were almost in a fever from the threat of falling trees. The wind was not the worst we’d seen, but it peeled back the skin of old fears. In this condition, the senses are heightened. You surely know what I mean. We began to speak—just out loud--to clear away the fear hanging all around..."
"We set about recording these and other stories right away and Night of the Furies is the result. It is a dark, sexy, danceable, nuanced, and sublime record. We produced it ourselves, which was the only way it could have been done, naturally, considering the content."- The Rosebuds
This song from the upcoming release shows just how sumptuous The Rosebuds (Ivan Howard and Kelly Crisp) can be, the smooth vocals, the swirling strings, all bringing back the best of British pop from the eighties. get up get out [ mp3] Out on Merge Records April 10th.

| Scandinavia Comes to SXSW: MP3s |
The Nordic countries of Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark, and Iceland have sent many artists to entertain at previous SXSW festivals, but this year is especially good. This is a collection of all the Nordic bands and artists I could find appearing at SXSW. This is by no means all of them... although you surely can't quibble at forty-five free mp3s, can you?
And you can quite possibly find more mp3s of these artists by visiting and searching the hype machine.
