| Sixeyes Mix: February 2nd |
It's Groundhog Day and that makes me think of Bill Murray and groundhogs. Unfortunately that combination doesn't bring many songs to mind, so bear with this mix.
gorillaz bill murray primus groundhog's day elliott brood miss you now the faint forever growing centipedes stephen malkmus church on white hayden trees lounge (live) barzin soft summer girls gillian reid nobilis humilis (hymn to St Magnus)
This last piece was something I stumbled upon after my father's death 3 months ago. I was looking for music related to the Orkney Isles where his father was from and found this, a very short and relaxing piece of music that reminds me of an instrumental song from a lousy early nineties movie John Mellencamp made called Falling From Grace, the song was done by Lisa Germano. But after listening to Germano's piece, after many years, I've decided it's not that similar, so I won't post it here. But this hymn to St Magnus performed by Gillian Reid is a Scottish Traditional and can be found on an album titled The Art of the Recorder and though brief I like it and like to think it's stirring some ancient Norwegian Viking blood that still courses through my veins. |
