INDIE LABELS & TOP 'New' DOWNLOADS AT eMusic

I've been looking around the eMusic site for indie labels that all indie fans are familiar with and after finding just these few I had to tell you guys. Secretly Canadian, Jagjaguwar, Matador, Merge, Lookout, Hidden Agenda, the Beggars group and all the labels that fall under that heading: 4AD, Too Pure, XL Recordings, Willja, Mo Wax, etc. All these labels have bands and artists on the site.

A few days ago eMusic beckoned and I answered by visiting the site in search of 'new' music. But this time I noticed a little thing up in the corner that said I had 29 items 'saved for later'. I had forgotten about this stuff, so I took a look at what had once caught my eye. One very interesting and talented artist is Jolie Holland and both of her solo releases are at eMusic. She plays a bluesy, folksy Americana delivered in a voice perfectly suited for the idiom. Another 'saved' artist was Nectarine No. 9, a Scottish band who find inspiration in the eccentric music of Zappa, Captain Beefheart, and The Flaming Lips. Not an easy band to get into for some, myself included, although I still love their song, "Susan Identifier".

Some other artists I noticed were: Dungen, Paul Weller, Iron & Wine, Fela Kuti, Serge Gainsbourg, A.C. Newman, Arcade Fire etc. I also came across a two disc compilation titled, A House Full Of Friends. Released this year on Magic Marker Records it features Dressy Bessy, The Decemberists, The Shins (the song "Baby Boomerang"), The Lucksmiths, Mates of State, The Thermals, Benji Cossa, Dear Nora, The Galactic Heroes, Aislers Set, The Softies, Lunchbox, The Salteens, and more!
