Back in 2004 Loretta Lynn released the acclaimed 'comeback' album Van Lear Rose which was produced by The White Stripes Jack White. The first song I heard from that disc was the amazing track "Portland, Oregon". I don't love Loretta Lynn's voice, but I don't mind it and this song just pushed the right buttons for me. With Jack White's playing and singing bolstering an already strong piece of music and faint memories of my slapping Johnny Cash vinyl on the stereo back when I was finding black heads in my chin and thinking I was gettin' whiskers, this song didn't have to try too hard to win me over.portland, oregon [mp3]
