The magic in this track is Neko Case's voice - singing hard and high - in a register that is far from natural for her. At the points where her vocal is multi-tracked the song really comes to life for me. Carl Newman uses her voice to perfection dressing it with a 60's backbeat, the jangly twang of guitars, and a simple organ melody. For me this is the highlight of The New Pornographers second CD Electric Version.

ReplyDeleteYeah, it is on Electric Version. The Mary Martin Show, and To Wild Homes, which I bring up only because they are totally dope, are on Mass Romantic.
